What Is PRP Microneedling For The Face?
Microneedling with PRP is a powerful technique to rejuvenate skin’s texture and glow, while reducing fine lines and scars. PRP stands for “platelet rich plasma”, which is taken from your own blood and then forced into the tiny channels that are created from the microneedling device to further stimulate the natural healing process and creation of new collagen. This procedure is also commonly referred to as a Blood Facial or Vampire Facial.
Is It Safe?
PRP is extremely safe because it uses your body’s own natural stem cells and growth factors. There are no reports of side effects or adverse reactions as long as the procedure is performed by a certified and trained provider. Microneedling is FDA approved along with the enrichment of plasma from blood. Microneedling is not suitable for anyone using Accutane within the last 3 months or anyone who currently has open wounds, cuts, abrasions, has undergone radiation skin treatment within the last year, is suffering from any skin infection, condition, or herpes simplex in the area of concern, are pregnant or breast feeding, or has any history of keloid or hypertrophic scars or poor wound healing.
How Does It Work?
Platelet rich plasma is produced from an individual’s own blood. After a blood sample is taken from the patient, it is put directly into a centrifuge and spun rapidly to separate the PRP from the blood. The centrifuge process takes about 15 minutes. PRP contains highly concentrated amounts of natural growth factors and other cytokines that promote the regeneration of soft tissues. The PRP is put into the tiny holes made from the microneedling process to further enrich the deep layers of the skin with fresh collagen and fibroblasts. Using PRP in additional to microneedling provides your skin with a stimulating boost in healing and regrowth that makes the microneedling treatment exponentially more effective.
Who Is A Candidate For The PRP Microneedling?
PRP is ideal for the treatment of acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks, wrinkles and fine lines, hyperpigmentation, lax skin, sun damaged, large pores, and uneven skin texture. It can be performed either on the face or body and is suitable for all skin types and colors.
Is It Painful?
Microneedling with PRP is not considered to be a procedure that induces pain, but we will still apply a numbing agent to your skin prior to starting the treatment. You will experience minimal discomfort. Patients have compared the feeling to a dry brush running over their skin.
How Long Does PRP Blood Microneedling Take?
Depending on where it is performed, the whole treatment will take about an hour. You will need extra time outside of the actual microneedling treatment to allow the numbing agent work, draw your blood, and give your blood ample time to be spun and separated.
How Often Does A Blood Facial Need To Be Performed?
We recommend starting with 3 sessions, with each session being at least 4 weeks apart from the previous. After you reach maximum results, we recommend maintenance PRP treatments between 2-5 times a year depending on your skin’s condition.
How Long Do The Results Last?
Results last months and continue to show over time. Once you achieve maximum results, you will want to schedule maintenance sessions at the recommendation of your provider to continue to stimulate your skin and improve its texture and appearance.
What Do I Need To Do To Prepare For A PRP Microneedling Treatment?
If you are free from any of the indications listed above, there is no preparation necessary for microneedling with PRP other than hydrating yourself well before the procedure to make drawing your blood easier. Hydrating well before and after also promotes healing of your skin.
When will I see aresults?
Your body’s collagen production takes 4 to 8 weeks on average, so you will continue to see improvements during this time. Usually, a series of at least 3 sessions are needed for maximum results, so you should return for another session after 4-8 weeks if desired results are not achieved after the first treatment.

What Areas Of The Body Can Be Treated With PRP Microneedling?

What Is The Recovery Like For This Procedure?
Your skin will be slightly red/pink after the procedure and will feel slightly sunburned. You should avoid any form of sun exposure for the first 24 hours and use sun protection of SPF 30 or higher thereafter. You should not apply makeup for at least 6 hours after your treatment. You should expect about 1 to 3 days of redness, uneven skin tone, and mild peeling. You can resume your normal activities as long as you avoid sun exposure and don’t mind the appearance of your skin if you are in public. Your skin will completely recover in 24 to 72 hours.
What Should I Expect At My Appointment?
Your provider will consult with you to ensure that PRP with microneedling is safe and appropriate for your skin and health status. Your provider will apply a topical numbing agent to the area to be treated and draw usually only one syringe of your own blood. Once the numbing agent has become effective, your provider will begin with the microneedling. When your blood has been spun and the PRP is ready, your provider will apply it to the tiny holes created during the microneedling process. After the treatment, your provider will give you any post-procedure instructions to follow. The entire treatment will take about one hour.
